Christ the King SPUDS is all about Witness, Mercy, and Life Together.
Wednesdays 6-7:30PM Sundays 9:45-10:45AM
Witness is much deeper than knocking on strangers’ doors and telling them about Jesus. Witness is something we both give and receive. We receive Witness whenever we discover God’s will for our lives as He has revealed it in Scripture. By the power of His Holy Spirit, God testifies (or witnesses) to us through the pages of the Bible. Having heard God’s plan for His creation, we tell others. Having received this witness, we give it to others.
Mercy isn’t just a plea for pity before a just judge. Mercy is a way to describe acts of service and love. What are the needs in our community (people, animals, creation)? Having been blessed by God’s great love, we share that love with others in tangible ways. It might look like caroling at a nursing home, secretly raking a neighbor’s leaves, or volunteering at a pet shelter to give love to kittens.
Life Together is pretty straightforward. We experience life together, as a community. Sometimes we get together for Bible study, sometimes we get together to serve our neighbors, and sometimes we get together just to be together and have fun. Un-shopping, video scavenger hunts, ski trips, waffle parties, lock-ins, dodge-ball, and water balloon fights are all important for us as we live Life Together. Obviously we’ll experience Life Together as we pray and serve, and that’s good. But sometimes (like a third of the time) we get together just to be together.
